FINNEY, Everett “Albert”
Albert Finney of Bowmanville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday
January 2, 2024 at the Lakeridge Hospital in Oshawa. He was born on
March 5, 1930 and was a treasured son of the late Phillip and Gladys
Finney. Albert was predeceased by his beloved wife of 67 years
Donelda Finney (nee Stacey) who passed away in December 2019, by
his son, Kevin Phillip, and his brother, Gord.
He is survived by three children, Brian Bradford (Beverly) of Oshawa,
Patricia Louise of Kitchener and Daniel John (Anne) of Quispamsis, NB,
two sisters, Evelyn Heard (the late Lorne), Theresa Farrow (the late Jim),
three brothers, Phil (Roberta), Harvey (the late Betty), Glenn (Jackie), sister-in-law Jennifer,
two grandchildren, Jenna
McQuinn (Jon), Kathleen Hogan (Sean) and five great grandchildren,
Isabel, Madelyn, Cecelia, Tilly and James, as well as many nieces and
nephews who all loved him dearly.
Albert and Donna ‘secretly’ eloped on January 16 th , 1953. He was a
lifelong Executive of Zellers, which took Albert and his family across
Canada. Their children enjoyed a happy childhood, primarily in Dollard
des Ormeaux, Que. Albert and Donna retired in Trent River, Ont.,
where they hosted many large family gatherings over the years, which
their family will look back on fondly.
Albert and Donna were devoted United Church members. Together
they enjoyed traveling the world including Australia, Europe, and their
favourite, the Caribbean. They were especially fond of Barbados, where
they acquired their fine taste for Barbados Rum.
Albert had several hobbies. He enjoyed picking blueberries and
strawberries every spring, wood carving, and building rock creations

(the best of all was a 12-foot waterfall feature in his backyard). His
favourite hobby, however, was vegetable gardening. 30 years later
there are still potatoes popping up in Dollard.
A special thank you is extended to Nurse Betty and the wonderful staff
of Marnwood and Glen Hill Terrace who looked after Albert with tender
care during his later years.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday January 11 at 11:00am at
