Sandy Alexander Graham (Shields Schofield) Wood
December 8, 1946 - May 5, 2020

It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of Sandy Wood. He went peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at 6:40pm after a two-week battle with pneumonia.
Beautiful son, first born, to Alexander Wood and Marguarite Schofield. Beloved husband to the late Barbara Jean King. Loving father to his 3 daughters, Veronica (Dale Albers), Brandi (Andrew Pigou) and Chantell (John Lee). Wonderful big brother to his 4 siblings and their spouses, the late Danny (Twyra) Wood, the late Kay (Bob) Barrow, Bruce (the late Susan Wood) and Connie (Telly) Marion. Loving uncle to all his nieces and nephews. Fun loving grandfather to Alex, Preston and Cyrus Albers; Ethan and Gracie Pigou; Tyler, Owen and Kaleb Lee. Best friend with Mabel Fong. He also leaves behind many dear cousins/relatives on both the Wood & King side, and all his good friends. Sandy held much love for all his uncles and aunts, especially Aunt Sandra and Uncle George and their children.
Sandy was a kind, fun, loving guy. He had a passion for writing and telling stories. He was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and helped in many charitable works. He was always a gentleman and set a shining example for his children. Sandy had a special kinship with animals, and he especially loved horses (Sandy was a cowboy at heart); his legacy lives on as Veronica (eldest daughter) now runs an animal farm of sorts and a published author.
Covid-19 prohibited visitors at the hospital, so Sandy was extremely grateful that Mabel Fong, best friend, was able to be there, and cannot thank you enough for all the prayers, kind support and love that he received via Facebook and telephone from so many families and friends. You can all be sure Sandy felt all your love; as he transitioned peacefully to join our Heavenly Father and get a welcoming reception from all those who went before.
Sandy holds a very special love for Mabel and all the Personal Support Workers from St. Elizabeth whose excellent care made it possible for him to stay living at home as he had wished, even with the onset of advance dementia.
Due to Covid-19, only a small private (max.10) graveside service will be held at Union Cemetery (Oshawa) on Friday, May 8, 2020, with Domenic Maglioli (LDS) presiding. However, there will be plans for a "Celebration of Life" to be held for Sandy at a later date, which will be announced. We can all look forward to share our wonderful stories and happy memories of Sandy, as he had brought so much joy and laughter to all of us.
I think this quote is fitting as we say good bye to the beautiful man that Sandy was, and always will be, as he is treasured in all our hearts.
"We never want to let go of the best things in life and Sandy was definitely one of a kind treasure to behold" 😊
God bless Sandy's good soul!
In lieu of flowers, donations would be welcome for either: The Heart & Stroke Foundation or The Alzheimer’s Society.
