When I was 4 years old and Alvin was about 16 I remember his bedroom filled with countless radios and radio parts. You had to look hard to find his bed. At the time he subscribed to Popular Mechanics and I think Popular Science. It helped that his dad had the electric business in Burstall. That shop supplied Alvin with a lot of stuff to tinker on.

In the 70's i tried to see him when he was in North Bay with Trans Canada. He was not in so we continued on to Montreal.

Quite by accident we met up in Calgary in the 90's. He was still with Trans Canada and I was consulting at Shell. He was in a Sr.management position but flat out said tinkering as an engineer/tech was a lot more fun then dealing with people problems. Although I am sure he was very good at the latter.
