Obituary

Etere, Anna

With heartfelt sorrow the family of Anna Etere announces her passing on November 11, 2020 at the age of 93.
Anna passed away peacefully at Hillsdale Nursing Home in Oshawa in the company of her family after a lengthy illness with dementia.

Anna was born in the beautiful town of Ravello on the Amalfi Coast of Italy. It was love at first sight when she met Michael (predeceased 2008) in Italy during the war and later after the war came to England where they married in 1947. In 1982, with her husband, she came to join part of her family in Canada and made Canada her home.
Hardworking, compassionate and sweet Anna was dedicated to the sick and elderly at St. Mary of the People in Oshawa for many years and was loved by all her friends at the church.

Anna will be dearly missed by her daughters Rosemarie Halliday of Canada and Tina Fraignuex (son-in-law David) of Australia along with her grandchildren Marina (Matt) of Australia, Simon (Dina) of Canada, Michele (Roy) of Australia and Mark (Lucy) of Canada. Great-Grandchildren Jessica, Samantha, Joshua, Matthew, Sarah, Ryan, Riley, Jamie, and Nanny Nanny to Nicholas, Julianna and Anthony.
Great Great Grandchildren Alfie Benjamin, Ava Rose, Elsie Isobel Anna (born the same day as Anna’s passing), and all extended relatives in England and Italy.

Anna, beloved Mum to your daughters and family you will be in our hearts forever and may you rest in peace that you so deserve.

Heartfelt thanks to all of the love and care that Hillsdale Nursing Home has shown our mother over the years, you went above and beyond.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial Mass on Thursday November 26th at 11am at St. Mary of the People Church (Stevenson Road south of Rossland) with interment at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Nanny,
I can't believe you are gone and we will never see you again. Even though we live in Australia and we couldn't see you in person, you were still always in our thoughts and hearts. I remember spending time with you and Grandad when we lived in England at the shop like it was yesterday. I can still hear you on the phone when we used to talk with your accent, I loved it!!
So Nanny, fly high and enjoy your afterlife, free from pain and the stresses of this physical world. Till we meet again. Lots of love Marina xxx (or as Grandad used to say Marinellapoppacoins.)

Anna, along with Mike, was a good friend to my parents Pete and Anne Williams and my uncle & aunt Len and Maud Godwin in Surrey. Anna and Mike were especially kind to Mum after Pete passed away and kept her connected to the community through St Mary's of the People. I remember Anna as a very kind lady with a great sense of humor. My sympathies to your whole family.

Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of Anna.
She was such a kind lady. She often came to visit my mom, Isobel Walsh, at her home. They shared wonderful conversations, tea and treats. It meant a lot to my mom. She often came in a taxi and my sister or I would drive her home. I enjoyed our conversations too.
We shared the fact that we both had family in Australia. My daughter was there in medical school for 4 years. Anna was kind enough to give my daughter a contact person. It helped her at the beginning. It was much appreciated.
Her husband was good friends with my dad, Joe Walsh, too.
Hoping all the wonderful memories bring comfort at this difficult time. Keeping all the family in my thoughts and prayers.

I have know Anna for almost 40 years and was sad to hear of her passing. I have so many fond memories of Anna. One that stand out is when she was reminiscing of her youth growing up in Italy, all the while squeezing my hand tightly. She always had a kind word for me and my family and she had the most beautiful smile. My sympathy goes out to her loved ones.
