Obituary for David E. Matthews
MATTHEWS, David Emlyn Griffiths Jr.,
At the age of 79, David peacefully passed away with family by his side on August 2, 2023, at Thorntonview Long Term Care.
He was born on April 16, 1944, the third child to David Sr. and Sarah Matthews in Oshawa, Ontario.
Upon graduating high school, David attended an Automotive Trade school to become a mechanic and is best known for owning and operating Matthews Sunoco at the corner of Dundas and Francis Street in Whitby.
David is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Tommy and Arthur, sister Margaret and many friends and relatives.
David lost his beloved second wife, Theresa in 2015. He is survived by his first wife Lynda, daughters, Diane (Gord), Deborah (Stuart), Donna (Roger), Nicole (Tony), Jennifer (Graham), sisters Irene (late John), Mary (Grant), brother Peter (Hilda), many nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME 124 King Street East, Oshawa, on Thursday August 10th at 1pm. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time, starting at 12pm.
Memorial donations are greatly appreciated to the Baycrest Foundation or a Charity of your choice.
