Obituary

Shewchuk, Dennis Peter – It is with heavy hearts that we say good bye to Dennis Peter Shewchuk who passed away peacefully on Sunday May 3rd, 2020 in his sleep in his 77th year.

Beloved husband for 52 years to Carol (nee Stezik), loving father to Dennis Jr. (Jackie) and Terry, wonderful grandfather to Elizabeth, Matthew and Casey.
Dennis also had many nieces and nephews. Dennis was the son of the later Peter and Anne Shewchuk of Winnipegosis, Manitoba.
He is survived by his sister Florence Hucaluk of Winnipeg, Manitoba and other family members in Manitoba and British Columbia. Dennis was predeceased by four brothers Edward, Nick, Ernie and Melvin.

Dennis was known for his gentle heart and his kindness. Being raised on a farm in Meadowland, Manitoba, he loved the outdoors and had an avid interest in fishing. He loved Ukrainian traditions especially the music. However, his passion was his family. Gatherings at home or at the cottage made him happy. He had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, especially when the kids were playing tricks on their grandfather.

Many thanks to Father Bohdan Hladio and the staff on Claremont neighborhood at the Village of Taunton Mills. You loved him and he enjoyed joking with you.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dennis can be made to St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox Church either through the parish website stjohnoshawa.org click the “donate now” button, under “fund” choose either the “parish support fund” or the “building fund” and in the “message box” write “in memory of Dennis Shewchuk” or by mail to St. John the Baptist UOC, 35 Bloor Street East, Oshawa, ON L1H 3L9.

Followed by interment at St. Wolodymyr & St. Olha Cemetery.

I am sorry for your loss. I was fortunate to know Dennis. He was such a comical man. Always teasing. I loved when he would knock to the beat of “shave & a haircut, two bits”! Thank you fir giving me the opportunity to know Dennis. I know each of you will cherish your memories of him.
Sincerely,
Kristin Dennis
