Back in England, I recollect well, the things Mum and I did at home…cooking dinners and making desserts - trifles, semolina, lemon-meringue pie, and of course, steamed pudding, with custard. The secret to the great taste of those puddings was adding a dollop of Lyons golden syrup into the batter! Mum told me never to tell anyone….48 years later, I’m telling!
I remember Mum and I assembling my electronic kit, or dismantling the console stereo in the conservatory at 48 Landseer. And when we needed to take a break, we watched Dr. Who, Thunderbirds, The Goodies and a lady who converted a sock into a talking lamb!
In Canada, Mum helped us through school, by completing some of our homework, creating crafts, making our bake sale items and keeping us fashionable. She packed our lunches into Peek Freans cookie bags…instead of plain paper bags. That didn’t last long though!
I think I was the only student in college to have my Mum attending the same time as I. She wasn’t in my classes…but we did have some of the same professors…and they used to remind me how Mum loved to correct their mistakes…especially in English class!
I never realized it at the time, but all of those interactions with Mum, was her preparation for our future lives with the skills and values we’d need to raise our own families. I find myself interacting with my children in much the same way Mum interacted with us….and we’re reliving and repeating just about everything, minus the cookie-bag lunches.
Watching my own children converse with their Granny over the past 15 years has been inspiring, because I saw her teach them to be creative, to follow their dreams and to be happy. I realized she’d already been down this road…as she had instilled the same values decades earlier…within her own children.
In the past month, I’ve looked at Mum’s writings, poems and stories, her greeting cards and art, her crafts and drawings, paintings and illustrations, and many other accomplishments. Everything she created had an element of joy and happiness. There’s a common theme in everything Mum did and said….and it hinges, on what I now consider to be her true core values… Love, Kindness, and Happiness. I will do my best to make these values the primary ones in my own life, following in her footsteps.
I will miss Mum every day, for the rest of my life. Her body is gone, but her character, principles and values remain within her children. That was her greatest accomplishment, and for that, I am eternally grateful.
Rest in Peace Mum, Love Forever.

Fabian and Doris, please accept my sympathies and deepest condolences. I have such fond memories of Fleuerette back when I delivered job search workshops in her classroom. She would share little gifts but the biggest gift of all was her. Sending strength to you.

Fleurette, Mary Ellen and I were office mates at Durham College. I remember her as a lovely, soft-spoken woman. After retirement, we sat on the Durham College Retiree Association executive together. She was always well-organized and thorough in anything that she attempted. I am shocked by her early passing and wish her God's speed. Rest in Peace!

Our deepest condolences on the passing away of beautiful Fleurette. I have such fond memories of her during my youth. Fleurette was a wonderful, kind, energetic and loving aunt and I smile often when I think of my time with her when I was a child. May you rest in peace Fleurette and know that you have raised wonderful children. You will be in our thoughts and remembered fondly. With sympathy; Sharene, Brad, Hazel, Kristen and Nicole
