Obituary for Sharon Sawyer

Sawyer, Gail “Sharon”

It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we announce the passing of Gail Sharon Sawyer, loving and supportive wife to Tom, who he affectionately referred to as Precious, mom to Tom (Julie Webb) and Nancy (Todd Soomre), grandma to Georgia, and bonus grandma to Graham, Greg, Anna and Aly Soomre.

Sharon was born Gail Sharon Truesdell in October 1942, and raised in Gananoque, Ontario. She met Tom in her early 20s and moved to Oshawa. They married in 1965, and settled into what became their family home for 56 years. They would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in October, on the same day as Sharon’s 82nd birthday.

Sharon dedicated her life to her family. She had strong principles, soft shoulders, a kind smile, and a heart as wide and deep as they come. She was deeply loved and respected by her friends, family, neighbours, colleagues, and everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her.

The family wishes to extend their most heartfelt thanks to the staff at Lakeridge Health, Sharon’s palliative team Dr. Go and Goldie, and all of the staff and volunteers at Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry. She was treated with the utmost dignity and respect through her journey, for which she was—and her family will be—forever grateful.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Armstrong Funeral Home (124 King St. E., Oshawa) from 1-4 p.m. with Words of Remembrance at 2:30 p.m. For online condolences please go to www.armstrongfh.ca. For anyone wishing to make a donation, the family has suggested Oak Ridges Hospice Port Perry.
