Our Mom

There was no shortage of love in our home,
Seven children and mom, we were never alone
The rooms were small, and space was tight
But our mom made sure you had a bed at night

We would wake in the morning, sometimes without heat,
But mom gave us warmth, often by the oven and a bowl of creamed wheat
She would feed us and dress us as best she could,
Often with unmatched garments and an unusual hood

Mom would stand at the door and wave with all her might
As we rounded the corner and disappeared out of sight,
I wonder how often, this strong lady would pray, watch over my children
For I may not be able one day

My children are my world, and I need them all by my side,
For it is them that I lived, so keep them a family, for they know how I tried
Don't separate in numbers and always stay strong,
For brothers and sisters can never be wrong

And should you need, daddy and I will be near
Come sit by our side, for we love you all so dear......
