Obituary for Jozef Gron

Groń, Józef

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Jozef Gron on March 6th at the age of 92 after years of diminishing health while living at home. Beloved husband of Julia Gron (nee Zuchowicz) for 60 years. Loving, caring and dedicated father of Ann (Derek Gruszecki). Cherished grandfather of Michelle and Eric. Dear brother to Franciszek Gron in Poland. Predeceased by many siblings, including - Mary Turowec and Katarzyna Bersinski. Lovingly remembered by extended family members and friends locally.

Born in Poland in 1930, Jozef and his family survived many hardships during World War II. After many years of enduring difficult challenges in life living in the rural region of Siedlce (Nowy Sacz), compulsory military service with the Polish Navy was his next major hurdle in 1952. Eventually, he followed his beloved sister - immigrating to Canada in 1960 and settling in Oshawa, ON. His spiritual and emotional determination allowed him to prosper and live a better life in a new country. He was a quiet, kind and gentle man who loved his family. May he rest in peace in God’s care knowing that his life’s journey allowed for family members to follow him and experience new opportunities.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2023 from 6-9 p.m. with Prayers at 7 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home (124 King St. E., Oshawa). A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 11 a.m. at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, officiated by Fr. Marcin Dzilinski. Following the Mass, Jozef will be taken to Resurrection Catholic Cemetery for burial.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church. Online condolences may be shared at www.armstrongfh.ca
