Obituary

JULIA’s JOURNEY
JULIA DOBROSHINSKY - May her precious Memory be Eternal.
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mrs. Julia Gallas Dobroshinsky, on Thursday 7th May 2020 at the Warkworth Nursing Home in her 95th year.
Julia was predeceased by her parents Maria and Dmytro Gallas, beloved husband Peter, sister Mary and brother in law John Muzik, and brother Michael Gallas. She is survived by her sister in law, Anne Gallas of Oshawa.
Julia was married to her husband Peter Dobroshinsky for 53 years. Peter fell asleep in the Lord on March 12, 1995. Devoted mother of Linda and her husband Bill Robertson (Austin Texas), Terry his wife Jody (Kamloops B.C). Loving Baba to her adoring grandchildren: Christa and her husband Matthew Tracey, Katrina and her husband Monte Shantz, Denis Robertson and his wife Melissa, and Taylor Dobroshinsky. Proud great-grandmother to Joshua, Jace, Lasha, Juliana and Leah. Julia is also survived by many nieces and nephews. To her family Julia was the world and her example of love and faith and family will live on through them.
Julia Gallas was born on June 29, 1925, at the Oshawa General Hospital, Oshawa, Ontario. Julia attended Cedardale Public school and OCVI High School. Julia married Peter Dobroshinsky on September 19, 1942. The Dobroshinsky and Gallas families were neighbors living two houses apart on Annis Street. Julia worked as a clothes presser and checker at the Oshawa laundry. During WW2, the Oshawa General Motors factories were converted to the support war effort. Julia was a riveter for the aircraft fuselages of which she was immensely proud. In her later years when dementia set in, she talked constantly of the work she did as a riveter. Julia also worked for Eaton’s department store in Oshawa.
St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox parish was an important part of Julia’s life. She was ten years old when the Parish formed. The church Choir was her lifelong passion and she remained an active choir member for 65 years. Julia was a member of St. John Parish "Holy Protection" Sisterhood.
Julia loved singing and playing mandolin with her sister Mary. She took violin lessons as a child, and loved to do crafts, needlework, sewing, knitting, and crocheting.
Julia Dobroshinsky lived in the house at Ritson Road South in Oshawa until August 2016. A total of 69 years, 9 months! Peter and his brother Joe built the house. In August 2016, Julia moved to Harmony Hill Retirement Community. In October 2018, Julia moved to Warkworth Place Nursing Home in Warkworth, Ontario.
The family of Julia Dobroshinsky wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Tony Ptak, Father Bohdan Hladio, Dr. Isabell Dion, Harmony Hill Retirement Community, Warkworth Place nurses and staff, and many family and friends for their support.

Dear Linda, Bill and family,

I am so sorry to hear of your Mother's/Baba's passing. I remember your Mom as a very kind and warm person - always smiling and making everyone feel welcomed and special. It is never easy to loose a parent regardless of age or how ill they may be. May the loving memories of good times spent comfort you during this difficult time and live in your hearts forever. Вічна її память - May her memory be eternal!
