I was saddened to read Kevin's obituary in the local paper.
I knew Kevin in the hallways of Eastdale - every time Kevin saw anyone, he greeted them with a friendly hello and a big smile. He always brightened my day.

It was with deep sadness that I heard of the loss of my dear friend Kevin Owens. I had met Kevin over twenty years ago at the East Mall Plaza where we worked in tandem with each other fulfilling the plaza’s work needs and repairs. Each spring we had what was known as the “Big Clean Up” and this became a tradition where the same group of eight would get together on that first Saturday in May and banter the day away – it was never done for the money it was always done for the camaraderie, food and fun and Kevin was always a huge part of this day. It was through this relationship that I had met his mom Sandra and his dad who were very fine people and always appreciative of the relationship that I/we had with Kevin.

To the end that relationship never ended. Christmas was always very important to both Kevin and I and never did one pass that I wouldn’t get a Christmas Card from him. He liked mine because they generally contained a little something but that always came from the heart and his consistent reliability as a friend and colleague made it a meaningful tradition. I have so many stories to tell…

I never really got an opportunity to meet his brother Chris but knew Kevin was a big fan so Chris thanks for taking good care of him both when he was around and after his passing. I will miss him dearly.
Attached is a small token for our remembrance, for I speak on behalf of all of my colleagues at the Laundromat and East Mall Plaza here in Oshawa, as well as my family who knew and loved Kevin, for the Saint Vincent Kitchen which became a big part of his life. I remain,

I am in complete and utter shock to learn of Kevin's passing. Kevin had/has a soul so gentle and kind to everyone he met and knew. His kindness was infectious and absorbing. He gave all he could with his friendly personality. A friendly giant we would call him and he loved the name. Kevin never once turned his back on those who needed to talk and loved to receive acceptance from all those who cared and loved him. He is one person that will never be forgotten in my life and will miss the 'smiley' faces and the 'hello's' on facebook messenger. I know, without a doubt, Kevin was more than accepted in the arms of the Lord as Kevin's life reflected acceptance of God and His love. Kevin, you will be forever missed but I know you are safe, happy and loved beyond words to where you are in heaven. Sleep well my friend and one day we too shall be reunited! Love Always,

R.I.P Kevin. I remember you laughing and joking in the halls at Eastdale.

Kevin had such a good heart. I first met him in high school when he was helping out with the school hockey team my brothers played on. -- It doesn't surprise me to see his big heart, and willingness to help others, continued over the years.

I am so very saddened to hear of his passing... Wishing all his family members and friends much love, comfort, and many wonderful memories right now. xo
