Obituary for June Eikhard

EIKHARD, Marguerite “June”

Late on the evening of February 19, 2023. Marguerite “June” Eikhard passed away at Lakeridge Health Oshawa in her 91st year. June moved to Oshawa from the Maritimes in the 60’s with her husband Cecil, who was working as a TV repairman and her 2 children Brent and Shirley. The whole family was musical. June was a tremendously talented fiddle player, but was able to play all the stringed instruments, as well as the piano and drums. She played as a band member on the fiddle with many excursions to the U.S.A. where she was always greatly appreciated. She will be remembered for her great sense of humour, her unforgettable laugh, and her musical expertise. She was a friend to everyone, and helped anyone in need. Yes, the First Lady of the Fiddle and Country Music has gone from us, but she will never be forgotten.
June was predeceased by her husband Cecil, son Brent, later partner Roy Witty, grandson Jamie VandenBogaard, and daughter Shirley. She will be so missed by her daughter in law Patti Thompson, granddaughter Tara Hebbes, great grandchildren Malcolm and Ella, step-children Corrinne, Jenn, Susan and Chris, Roy’s siblings, her best friend Gordon Grills, and many friends and extended family.

An interment of cremated remains will be held at Oshawa Union Cemetery (760 King St, Oshawa) on Tuesday March 7, 2023, at 11 a.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #43 (471 Simcoe St, S, Oshawa) on Saturday April 1, 2023, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
