Obituary for Marguerite Farewell Jones

JONES, Marguerite Farewell
March 1st, 1926 – April 26th, 2020

Passed away peacefully in her 95th year, with her family by her side, at Traditions Retirement Home in Oshawa, ON on April 26th, 2020.

Loving wife of Thomas C. Jones for over 70 years. Beloved mother of Dianne Jones Osborne, Mark Jones (Terry) and Sheila Jones (late Richard J. Marceau); Grandmother of Kenneth Osborne, Rebecca Hennessy, Tammy Jones, Terri-lyn Jones Peddar (Jeremy), Tina Jones, Tobi Jones; Step-grandmother of Aude Marceau (Philippe Beauchemin), Hugues Marceau; Great-grandmother of Morgan Peddar, Calla Peddar, Tessalie Peddar.

Marguerite was a Farewell descended from one of the first families to settle in the Oshawa area. Farewell creek and Farewell Avenue are named after them.

In her own words, " Marguerite was deeply religious, but not with organized religion. When she was ten years old her Dad died. She determined to read the whole Bible. God became her Father and she continued her daily Bible reading for the rest of her days. She did religious writings and poetry. Some of her poetry was published in the Oshawa Times newspaper in the Poet’s Corner section and by National Library of Poetry in Maryland. She went through a stage when she did oil paintings. Some of which her children and grandchildren treasure. Mostly she was just a wife and mother. Her family she loved dearly. She was a nature lover. Her plants and flower beds were her delight. She loved to stroll through gardens and enjoyed her walks.”

The family would like to thank Dr. Osborne, and all the nurses, PSW’s and staff at Traditions for their exceptional care of both Marguerite and Tom.

As a result of COVID-19 restrictions, a private graveside service will take place on Thursday, April 30th at Mount Lawn Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, friends and family requested to make donations to the charity of their choice.
