Obituary for Reijo Olavi Pesonen
PESONEN, Reijo Olavi – of Whitby, Ontario, passed away peacefully with family at his side on Wednesday,
November 20, 2019, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. He was born to parents Edith and Armas Pesonen, on January 10, 1932, in Viipuri, Finland. He married Eila Pesonen (Koistinen), the love of his life, in 1956, who predeceased him in 2016. Rejio is survived by his children Kirsi Watters (Larry), Paivi Ponton, Anne Lyrette (Ed), and Ismo Pesonen (Amy) and his grandchildren Michael, Jason (Jennifer), Amanda, Daniel (Stephanie), Cody, Kristen, Sara and Charley. He was also the proud great grandfather of Connor, Heavenly, Claire, Jaxon, Zachary and James. Lastly, he was the loving uncle of Matti Posti. Reijo was a true storyteller and craftsman. He loved to share stories about his travels and adventures during his days in the Finnish Navy as a young man and to passionately apply his woodworking talents towards many endeavours including his cabin in Udora, countless family saunas and his model display ships, which he learned to craft from his father. As per his last wish, a cremation has been entrusted to the Armstrong Funeral Home, Oshawa. The family would appreciate donations in support of the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region, in lieu of sending flowers.
