Obituary

Gay, Ronald Howard ”Ron” – Peacefully on Labour Day, Monday September 2nd, 2019, Ron passed away surrounded by his family after a long battle with Dementia, in his 80th year.

He leaves behind his loving wife Margaret Gay and the late Shirley.
Dear father of Rhonda, Candace and Jamie (Corrina). Beloved grandfather of Dylan, Kayla, Madelyn and Connor. Survived by his siblings Velma Johnson, Ted (Muriel), Linda Maleshev (Victor) and Gloria Foskett (the late Ron) predeceased by Earl, George, Ray, David, Helen, Jean, Doreen, June, Ruth, Arliss, Audrey & Diane. Lovingly remembered by many family and friends.

Ron was a proud retiree from General Motors after 42.9 years of service. He was an active leader in the Union, CAW local 222 and Unifor, as committeeman and sick/accident and retirees representative. He served as a director for Autoworkers Community Credit Union for 20 years. Ron was incredibly active and led a busy life helping others at work, organizing sports teams and ensuring patients at Hospital for Sick Children received birthday and Christmas presents through the gate collection at the Truck Plant. Ron enjoyed his time at the trailer, on Pigeon Lake, fishing, camp fires and visits with the family were his most treasured memories. Golfing with the retirees was another favourite pastime. Ron was happiest when he had family and friends around. His door was always open and he loved to help anyone in need.

Condolences from The Smith Family. Ron was always a familiar face growing up. Ron and my father (Eric) ran the Truck Car Oldtimers Hockey League for many years. I remember the days when they would draft their teams in the basement of our house. Ron was always full of energy and passion about the league. Outside of hockey, Ron was a very dear friend to my parents and I always enjoyed when he would come to visit.

Ron was a great guy who always loved to share a smile with people around him and in the community. I served with Ron on the Board of AWCCU and Ron was a pleasure to be around. We send our condolences to the Gay family and his friends and colleagues.

Our sincere sympathy to all Ron’s family. He was a very special person and will truly be missed. The photo album was wonderful and brought back many memories for Don not only of GM and union days but also their personal friendship. I also remember sharing garden ideas with Ron, how to overwinter geraniums and other challenges like growing asparagus.
We will be thinking of you tomorrow. We are unable to attend as we have a family memorial service out of town.
Sincerely. Don and Ann Couch
