To Leslie and family:

It was a pleasure to care for your mother, she was truly one of a kind. Sorry for the late condolence, but I just found about her passing. I have thought about Ruth often and will remember the laughs we shared and wisdom she offered. God Bless

Just heard about your mother's passing. She was such a wonderful lady. I have lived in B.C. for the last 30 years but I have visited her and your brother Ted at the home on Masson Street when I used to get back to Oshawa twice a year. I still do and was thinking about her last week. My Mom and Dad ( Vi and Ian ) were friends of your parents and of course Ted and I were great friends. I visited your cottage many times when we were teenagers. You have such a great family and I know you will miss your Mom greatly. Eric McNab. Langley B.C.

To the family - I am sorry I was not able to be at Ruth's funeral last week. I am out of the country so did not hear about her passing until two days ago. My condolences to Richard, Mary and Leslie and to all the grandchildren and great grand children..

Ruth and her family have been in my life as far back as I can remember. When we were young the Townsend household on Masson Street was a favourite gathering place for youthful high jinks and Ruth was the most tolerant mom in the neighbourhood. Their driveway was the favoured location for street hockey. The Townsend liviing room and the family cottage were a big feature of my youth and Ruth and Murray were welcoming and engaged hosts . I was also privileged to see the adult side of life as the Townsend were frequent visitors to our home as members of an informal bridge club which was a constant feature of my young adulthood. As kids we always looked forward to those evenings because the adults had so much fun in each other's company.

Later Ruth was a valued colleague at O'Neill Collegiate when she rejoined the work force after a life of raising four children.

Later still Ruth and and a group of Oshawa ladies, including my mother, formed a bridge club which continued meeting well into their nineties ( in fact before Ruth became a centenarian another member reached that plateau well before her). These ladies demonstrated it is possible how to age gracefully and productively at any age. Ruths' courage in overcoming a serious hip injury in her late nineties was astounding and inspiring to witness.

Even at 104 Ruth was an engaged and social person who was fortunate enough to retain her faculties and always ready and smiling to greet visitors and to engage them in thoughtful conversation. I had the pleasure of seeing her just over one month ago.
Hers is a life well lived and well worth celebrating.

I remember Aunt Ruth and Uncle Murray from when they visited the farm and when we went for the trip to the cottage when I was small. Smile
