It's with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Sharon Howcroft (nee Spires) on May 8, 2019. After a courageous battle with glioblastoma, Sharon passed peacefully in the comfort of her home, with both her daughters by her side. Her incredible spirit and positive attitude were an inspiration to her family.

Sharon was born May 15, 1947 to the late Everett and Velma Spires and raised in Solina. She leaves behind her loving brother Larry and wife Barb, who loved and supported her everyday, and nephews Robert and John. She was a strong, devoted Mother, Sharon raised her two daughters Andrea and Shannon with endless love. Her work ethic was like no other, Sharon spent 25 yrs working for Ruddy Electric in Oshawa and finished her career at Beach Arms Retirement Residence in Toronto this past year. Sharon was an avid admirer and collector of antiques and also enjoyed traveling. She was fortunate to have made her belated-birthday trip to Portugal this past fall. She devoted much of her time to volunteering as well as caring for and fostering many animals. She will be deeply missed by her daughters, family, friends, colleagues and “my boy” Shorty.

Sharon will be laid to rest at Mount Lawn Cemetery.
Donations in her memory can be made to The Animal Guardian Society.

It is your birthday Ms. Howcroft....I have so many thoughts so I am just going to get it out.

We grew up in Courtice, such a small town back then, everybody knew everybody. Some of my fondest memories of childhood involved this awesome Mama. All of the Mothers in our community took time, effort and care in everyone's children and Sharon was leading the pack. I remember the day we moved just down the street from Sharon, Andrea and Shannon. Me and Tracey were sooooo excited that our BFF was literally kitty corner from our house. It was from that day on that Sharon became one our care takers. The duties that she took on included (but were not limited to) driving us all over Durham region :), feeding us snacks on demand, hanging out with us on summer days in the yard catching some rays, countless sleep overs, listening to our constant concerns around our clothes, hair, make up and everything else. This lady was a constant in my world for as long as I can remember and that has never changed. My strongest memories include her never ending smile (now careful that smile could be genuine happiness or also mean we were in a world of trouble for some foolishness we had got into lol). I remember her laugh that came so easily and most noteworthy is likely her patience. Sharon always had a tremendous amount of patience for the mountain of hormonal teenage girls rolling around and that is something that has always stayed with me.

Sharon was a positive and constant presence in my life and was part of the foundation of who I am today. I can't imagine the world without you but I am so glad you were part of my world. Love you always.
