Sander, Sophia Anna “Sophie”
Sophia Sander (nee Martyniuk) passed away peacefully at age 97 on Wednesday July 12, 2023 at Extendicare Seniors Home.
Loving wife of the late Michal John Sander for 60 years.
Survived by her loving son John Sander along with many nieces and nephews and their families. Predeceased by her siblings Olga, Antony, Andrew, Mary (Mitch), Anna (Frank).
Sophia was born in Brest Poland and exiled in 1939 at the onset of WWII. As a refugee she travelled for 6 years through Siberia, India, South Africa and England before settling in Canada. Sophia was a committed member of the Polish Ladies Auxiliary for over 40 years. She loved gardening, travelling and spending time at the cottage on Crowe Lake, Marmora.
Please join with the family for visitation at Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East, Oshawa on Sunday July 16th from 6pm to 8pm. Parish Prayers will be held at 7pm in the chapel.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Hedwig’s Polish Catholic Church on Monday July 17th at 11am. Followed by Interment at Thornton Cemetery.
