Obituary for Velia Ida Scalia (Bombino)

SCALIA, Velia Ida (Bombino)
March 18, 1937-November 27, 2023
Velia passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday November 27th at the age of 86 at Agecare Samac Oshawa, formally known as Chartwell Wynfield LTC.
Loving daughter of the late Michele Bombino and Maria Bombino (Mele) of Grimaldi, Italy.
Predeceased by her husband Anthony and her beloved son John. She leaves behind her
devoted son Frank and daughter in law Maria. Cherished Nonna to John Jr., Merissa (Mike),
Veronica and Sarah. Predeceased by her siblings Joseph (Emilia), Rosina (John), Geltruda and
Giovanni. She will also be missed by her sister in law Giovanna (Grimaldi, Italy) as well as her
many nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family and friends. Born in Grimaldi (Cosenza) Italy, Velia left in July 1960 to move to Canada to start a new way of life and a family. She worked full time as a head housekeeper at the Dynasty (Carousel) Inn in Oshawa for many years. Velia was a hard worker, an amazing cook and baker and always enjoyed the company of family and friends. She was a role model to her family and many
people who knew her and often helped the community through acts of kindness. Velia showed affection, respect, loyalty and strength to all those she loved. She lived for her children and grandchildren. Family was everything to her. Velia had a way of making each person, even those who were initially strangers, feel like family within a few short minutes. In true Velia fashion, no one ever left her home hungry. The Scalia family wishes to thank everyone for their many years of countless support throughout Velia’s illnesses. Your kindness has provided her and her family comfort and strength these past 10 years and their gratitude is endless. Velia’s family would also like to thank Agecare Samac Oshawa, where she was a resident for more than 8 years. Especially Dr.
Wilk and the entire staff of administrators, nurses, PSWs, and volunteers for their compassion
and exceptional care. She will be dearly missed and treasured always.

Visitation will be held at Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East, Oshawa on Friday December 8th from 3pm to 9pm. Parish Prayers will be held in the Chapel at 3pm. Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Saturday December 9th at 10:30am. Entombment to follow at Resurrection Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers donations to Ronald McDonald House Charities or Holy Cross Parish would be appreciated by the family.
