Obituary for Walter Melvin Suddard

W.M. (Mel) Suddard

Peacefully on November 6 in his 96th year at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa. Mel was husband to the late Edith, father to Gwen and Melanie, father-in-law to Bill and Matt, grandfather to Alessandra, Bryan, Aidan and Devlen, brother to Bert and in later years companion to Ming. Predeceased by siblings Bob, Bud and Rena.

Mel was a lifelong resident of Oshawa. Until his recent hospital admission, he lived in the house that he built in 1970. He worked at General Motors for 35 years and had many hobbies including hockey refereeing and coaching children’s sports. Although he was a hard worker, he always knew how to pace himself, relax and have fun. He flew a Cessna for years, always taking out-of-town guests for a tour of the countryside or Toronto lakefront. He tended and enjoyed his pool into his seventies, golfed into his mid-eighties and danced into his eighties.

Visitation at Armstrong Funeral Home (124 King St. E., Oshawa) on Thursday November 11, 2021 from 6-8pm. Funeral in the Chapel on Friday, November 12, 2021 at 11am.
