Obituary for William Ross Harris

William Ross Harris
William Ross Harris
(September 5, 1947 - May 10, 2016)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Bill, at age 68, in Port Hope, Ontario. Partner of Olga McQuay and father to Rob (Trish), Scott (Tara) and Neil. Grandpa to Rylie, Morgan, Ella and Bree.

Bill was born in London in 1947, son of Charlotte (nee Wilson) and Ross, and big brother to Ann (Brian) Arnold, Betsy (Mark) Gore and Steve (Josie).

When Bill said he would do something, you knew it would get done well and likely ahead of schedule. For more than 20 years, he worked hard to provide for his family by building a successful career in the aerospace industry. He spent many years traveling for work before doing it for pleasure.

For the past 20-odd years, Bill lived the life he wanted. He travelled the world and took up new recreational activities. He enjoyed cycling with a club and played regular games of pickleball. With a willing partner in Olga, he discovered the world of square dancing. This led him to volunteer as vice-president of the Lift Lock Square Dancing Club, where he was eagerly pursuing ways to involve younger dancers in an activity that brought him so much friendship and fun. Bill was a hard working, private person who was passionate about the causes and organizations he believed in.

We will remember Bill on Thursday, May 19th at Armstrong Funeral Home at 124 King St. East in Oshawa for a visitation at 1 p.m. and funeral at 2 p.m. (reception immediately following). A private interment for family will take place in London at a later date. For online condolences please visit www.armstrongfuneralhome.net.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of Bill’s favourite charities, including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
