Just want to share with you some of the memories I have of my big brother Leslie when we were young kids.
As a boy Leslie spent endless hours playing battles with his toy soldiers. I can see him now the British lined up with their cannons and tanks facing the enemy then the action began. The enemy never stood a chance because his secret weapon the plane came and bombed then all. Leslie also had a marble collection that was the envy of all his pals. I think this was achieved by his very own varied game rules he introduce as they played along with him. They never got the better of him.
What Leslie did was to take the blankets off our beds and peg them over the washing line in the garden. He took wooden pegs and snapped them in half so he could make stakes to fasten the bottom of the blankets to the ground. What wonderful tents he made. To complete he called his friends round to play armies guess who was the captain. I was desperate to join in this game but needed to tidy the sitting room so my wonderful brother put one of his friends on a charge and made him do it for me. I had a lovely afternoon playing in the tent and Leslie’s friend really impressed us with his cleaning skills.
What Leslie did next was to play Cowboys and Indians a game I wasn’t impressed with because I was the one tied to the lamp post. He was always very generous with his sweets after crafty devil he was.
Leslie was always my brave fearless big brother and even though he was poorly we were still laughing about our childhood together. I miss him so much but I am thankful for our memories and chats before he had to go. Loving thoughts from Carole. xxxxxx
