Mary and Henry Van Vroenhoven

Mia, Eric, Marie, Abbey and Graham, I am sorry to hear of Johns passing and Henry and I send our heartfelt sympathy to you. When you first met John (Opa) people often got the impression that he was a quiet tough guy, after you got to know him better I realised that he was more like a soft, direct, teddy bear. John was a devoted grandfather who made sure he was there for his grandchildren when needed, to pick them up at the babysitters even when they were toddlers, to to look after them when they had sick days from school, and to drive them places when needed. He loved showing them off to his friends at the church breakfast. John was so happy and proud to see his grandchildren at church, he loved to see Graham become and alterserver and always appreciated it when Abbey would assist him in handing out the bulletins at the back of the church. John always had sense of humour and it is clear that Eric and Graham have inherited it from him. Abbey and Graham, when I started writing this, the first thing that came to mind was Lemon Meringue Pie and pudding and then I read your condolence and you guys forgot the "Dutch cheese" and homemade apple sauce, and the sprinkles. We know he is in a better place now (is there a Bingo Heaven?) and his little aches and pains with his wrist and knees won't bother him any more and you will have fond memories. Most of all John, "ran the race, fought the fight and kept the Faith". I know he will be missed.
